World Braille Day: First Lady Calls for Digital Inclusion of the Blind

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for stronger commitment to inclusion and accessibility for blind and visually impaired persons, particularly in the fast-growing digital space.

In a message to commemorate World Braille Day 2026, marked on January 4, Senator Tinubu described Braille as a vital tool for inclusion, dignity and independence, noting its continued relevance in a rapidly digitalising world.

She stressed the need to bridge the digital gap by ensuring that technological advancements are accessible to persons living with visual impairments.

According to her, the integration of Braille with modern technology guarantees equal access to information, education and economic opportunities.

The First Lady further urged sustained efforts in Nigeria to create inclusive environments that enable all citizens to live full and independent lives.

She emphasised the importance of strengthening policies and partnerships that empower every Nigerian to participate confidently in nation-building, regardless of physical ability.

Senator Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting inclusion and equal opportunities, while wishing Nigerians and the global community a happy World Braille Day 2026.
