Ogun pays N5.66b gratuity to LG retirees

The Ogun State Government has disbursed N5.66 billion as gratuity to retired public primary school teachers and local government workers.

Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Pensions (BLGP), Engr. Olufisan Osiyale, disclosed this during the presentation of cheques to beneficiaries in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Osiyale said the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration remains committed to ensuring a comfortable life for senior citizens after retirement.

He reiterated the government’s resolve to protect the welfare of local government retirees, particularly through the prompt disbursement of gratuities.

“It is pertinent to state that Governor Dapo Abiodun is highly concerned about the living standards of retirees and is doing everything humanly possible to ensure they live a decent life,” he said.

The BLGP boss noted that the payment of monthly pensions has been regular, adding that part payments of gratuities are made to pensioners with health challenges to enable them to access medical care while awaiting full payment.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Christiana Adedubu thanked Governor Abiodun for clearing the backlog of gratuities. She urged him to sustain the gesture, describing it as a true dividend of democracy for retirees.
