Enugu’s economy on right trajectory, says expert

An economic expert, Prince Ugochukwu Nnaji, has stated that Enugu’s economy is on the right trajectory, emphasising, however, that residents must be willing to make sacrifices to enable the government to consolidate on the gains achieved so far.

Nnaji, who noted that Governor Peter Mbah’s administration has restored various moribund sectors of the state to make them revenue-generating ventures, stated that residents must continue to support the government to provide more dividends.

Speaking to journalists in Enugu, Nnaji stated that the state has witnessed a quantum leap in infrastructure development, stressing that such was key to the attraction of foreign investments and economic boom.

“It’s very easy to forget where you are coming from, but when you look back, you can see the level of investment that has been made in the past two years in the state. 

In the area of security, there are CCTV cameras mounted in every nook and cranny of the state; the security vehicles that patrol the various junctions, and the Command and Control centre where all activities of the state are being monitored.

“When you go to the educational sector, you can see his imprints. The smart Green Schools are being built in 260 wards, building state-of-the-art facilities, inculcating subjects like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics, among others. We just learnt that the state government has trained over 6,000 teachers ahead of the resumption of schools.”

In the area of healthcare, Nnaji disclosed that the state government has built Type 2 hospitals across the 260 wards, equipping them with drugs and facilities to ensure that every citizen of the state has access to healthcare. According to him, before now, people used commercial motobikes (Okada), traveling about five kilometres to the nearest hospital.

“Water supply has greatly improved. Enugu had one million litres, but it has increased to 120 million litres. Then the agricultural sector is alive with the tractor assembly plant in the state, the improvement in the road network, as well as the dive into electricity, among others. These are things that could make for a productive and stable economy,” he added.
