Ogun govt orders encroachers to vacate farmlands or face legal action

The Ogun State Government has issued a stern warning to individuals illegally occupying government-owned agricultural lands, directing them to vacate immediately or face legal action.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, gave the warning while addressing journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital.

He stated that the illegal occupation of farmlands had disrupted key agricultural development projects aimed at enhancing food security, creating jobs, and improving farmers’ livelihoods.

“Unallocated farmlands are reserved for specific programmes and must not be taken over unlawfully. Such encroachment poses a serious threat to the state’s agricultural development plans,” Owotomo stated. 

He explained that the government would no longer tolerate lawlessness, stressing that any individual who refused to vacate would face prosecution.

“The state government is committed to ensuring that all lands designated for agricultural purposes are properly allocated and utilised for food production. Those who continue to occupy these lands illegally should vacate now or be prepared to face the full wrath of the law,” he warned.

Owotomo reiterated that agriculture remains a major driver of Ogun State’s economic transformation agenda, assuring that the government would provide genuine farmers and investors with secure access to land, improved infrastructure, and necessary support services.

He urged community leaders and residents to work with the government by reporting cases of land grabbing, adding that protecting agricultural land was crucial to achieving food security and reducing unemployment.
