The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo State Chapter, joins the global community to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, from November 25 to December 10, 2024.
This year’s campaign, themed “Orange the World: End Violence Against Women Now!”, aims to raise awareness about the pervasive issue of gender-based violence, which affects millions of women and girls worldwide.
As journalists, we recognize the critical role we play in shaping public discourse and promoting social change.
We call on governments, policymakers, and stakeholders to:
Strengthen laws and policies to prevent and respond to gender-based violence
Increase funding for initiatives addressing gender-based violence
Support survivors and provide access to justice and reparations
Let us unite to break the silence, challenge patriarchal norms, and demand an end to gender-based violence.
