NRC resumes Ujevwu–Itakpe train services Wednesday

The Nigeria Railway Corporation has announced the resumption of train services on the Ujevwu–Itakpe corridor, with scheduled operations set to recommence on Wednesday.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Railways Customer Service Unit, WITS, NRC, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri on Monday.

The statement partly read, “We hope this January has been a wonderful one for you, and that you are all doing well.

“We sincerely apologise for the delay in the resumption of our train services. We have truly missed you all and appreciate your patience during this period.

We are pleased to inform you that train operations will resume on Wednesday, 28th January 2026. The train will depart Ujevwu Station by 8:00 am and arrive at Itakpe Station.

“On Thursday, 29th January 2026: The train will depart Itakpe Station by 12:00 pm back to Ujevwu Station, and services will continue as scheduled thereafter. The e-ticket platform for booking will be open by midnight today. So you can start your bookings.

Thank you for your time, patience, and continued support. We can’t wait to welcome you back on board.”

It was reported that the Ujevwu–Itakpe rail service, which links Delta State to Kogi State, is an extension of the Warri–Itakpe rail line inaugurated in 2020 to boost freight and passenger transportation between the South-South and North-Central regions.

The corridor plays a strategic role in evacuating goods from Warri ports and facilitating inter-state travel.

Train operations along the route were suspended several weeks ago due to operational and logistical challenges, including maintenance work on rail infrastructure and safety concerns.

The suspension disrupted passenger movement and commercial activities along the corridor, prompting calls from commuters and stakeholders for an early resumption of services.

The Nigeria Railway Corporation has repeatedly stated that periodic suspensions are necessary to ensure passenger safety and improve service efficiency across its expanding rail network.
