“There Is Still More for Me to Do”, Oluremi Tinubu Reacts to Leadership’s Person of the Year Award

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has described her recognition as Leadership Newspapers’ Person of the Year as a renewed call to service, declaring that she remains committed to doing more for the Nigerian people.

She made this remark while formally receiving the notification of the award during a courtesy visit by the management of Leadership Group, led by its Chairman, Mrs Zainab Nda-Isaiah.

Expressing gratitude to the organisation, Senator Tinubu said the honour had further energised her for the year ahead.

“With this, I am fired up for the year,” she said. “I am guided by the scripture which says, I can do all things. There is still more for me to do — what I am doing for the common man.”

The First Lady noted that hard work has remained a guiding principle in her life, adding that she draws inspiration from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s work ethic.

“I like to work hard because my husband is a hard-working man,” she stated.

She also appreciated the recognition of her efforts as a woman, stressing that while society may be male-dominated, it only motivates women to work harder.

“I have never seen men as a challenge, but it makes me know that I have to work three times as hard to get ahead. I tell girls all the time: be confident, focused and hardworking.”

Senator Tinubu commended the late founder of Leadership Group, Mr Sam Nda-Isaiah, whom she described as a man of integrity, and thanked the current management for sustaining his legacy.

In her remarks, Mrs Zainab Nda-Isaiah said the decision to honour the First Lady as Person of the Year 2025 was unanimous, citing the visible impact of her interventions through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) since the inauguration of the Tinubu administration in 2023.

Senior Vice Chairman of Leadership Group, Mr Azu Ishiekwene, noted that Senator Tinubu has redefined the Office of the First Lady by turning it into a platform for purposeful leadership and compassion, transcending tribal, religious and political divides.

He added that the award is reserved for individuals who demonstrate excellence, dedication and tangible impact.

The award ceremony is scheduled for February 12, 2026, marking the 18th edition of the Leadership Person of the Year Award. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has previously received the honour three times.
