The Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has reiterated the Commission’s commitment to deepening the local content value chain and the overall development of the Nigerian society.

He said the Commission also recognises the importance o this as the driver of economic sustainability and growth in the country.

Maida spoke at the recently concluded 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair organised by the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KADCCIMA) in Kaduna State.

He said the NCC remains dedicated to fostering an enabling environment for the telecommunications industry to grow, where local content and innovation can also thrive.

The NCC chief executive said robust value chain and local content cannot be over-emphasised in creating economic opportunities that will also contribute to technological advancement, job creation and skills development.

In this regard, Maida said the NCC had implemented various innovations to promote indigenous participation in the telecommunications sector; adding that the body has continued to encourage local manufacturers to assemble and manufacture telecommunications equipment, promote local software development and support other initiatives that are aimed at enhancing digital skills and entrepreneurship among Nigerian youths.

The NCC chief executive also said that the body has continued to prioritise consumer protection and empowerment, while also ensuring that consumers have access to high quality telecommunications services and are well informed about their rights and responsibilities.

In conclusion however, he urged all stakeholders, including telecommunications operators, equipment manufacturers, software developers and consumers to embrace the ethos of promoting local content by working together to create a more vibrant and inclusive telecommunications industry in the country.
