The meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), originally planned for Thursday, June 19, 2025, has been postponed.

The National Economic Council (NEC), led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, is constitutionally tasked with advising the President on the nation’s economic matters.

It specifically focuses on coordinating economic planning and programs across various government levels within the Federation.

The membership includes the 36 State Governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and additional co-opted government officials.

At its 149th meeting in April, the National Economic Council approved the creation of a Cotton, Textile, and Garment Development Board. It also backed new strategies for expanding agribusiness and transforming livestock industries—initiatives that are expected to generate up to $90 billion in economic value by 2035. OYONEWS
