Lagos Gov’t Shuts Down Cubana Chief Priest’s Restaurant

In a decisive action to uphold environmental regulations, the Lagos State Government has shut down DONALD Restaurant, a prominent venue owned by renowned nightlife entrepreneur Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest.

The restaurant located in Lagos’s upscale Lekki area was closed after two staff members were found illegally dumping waste by the roadside, which is a blatant breach of the state’s environmental regulations.

Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), announced this through his official handle on X (formerly known as Twitter).

He reported that the Chairman of the Lekki Estate Residents Association (LERA) had notified LAWMA early on Saturday, May 18, 2025, regarding illegal waste dumping along Durosimi-Etti Street in Lekki Phase 1.

Gbadegesin reported that a white Ford van with the Abuja license plate GWA 136E was caught indiscriminately dumping waste.

The vehicle was tracked to DONALD Restaurant, a nightlife venue located on Road 14 within the estate.

The Chief Security Officer of LERA apprehended the suspects at the scene and took them into custody at the LERA Secretariat.

It was reported that the individuals tried to offer a bribe of ₦100,000 to the security team, but their offer was decisively declined.

The Monitoring and Compliance Team from LAWMA was promptly dispatched to the site, where they apprehended the suspects and sealed the premises due to severe environmental violations, contravening the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.

Gbadegesin mentioned that the suspects would be legally prosecuted.

Gbadegesin emphasized that LAWMA is steadfast in its dedication to upholding environmental regulations throughout Lagos and calls on all residents and businesses to rigorously follow appropriate waste management practices. “Maintaining a clean and livable city is a shared responsibility,” he stated.
