Lagos denies involvement in FESTAC town demolitions
The Lagos State Government has denied any involvement in the recent demolition of structures in FESTAC Town.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, made the clarification on Tuesday at the government secretariat in Alausa.
Olumide stated that the State Government was not responsible for the demolitions, contrary to circulating reports.
Olumide noted that Lagos State follows a strict and transparent process before any demolition, which includes issuing all necessary statutory notices and engaging meaningfully with affected parties when required.
He urged all agencies operating within Lagos, especially federal bodies, to seek clearance and consult with the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development before carrying out any demolition activities.
“We want to assure residents that the Lagos State Government remains committed to fairness, due process, and the protection of property rights,” Oluyinka said.
Any demolitions carried out without proper authorisation does not reflect the position or practice of this administration.”
