Kwankwaso Finally States Conditions for Joining APC

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has established conditions for aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso stated that he would only consider merging with or joining the APC if there are significant benefits for NNPP members.

While speaking at his Miller Road residence in Kano, where he welcomed Buhari Bakwana—a former political adviser to ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje—alongside APC members from the 44 local government areas of Kano State, Kwankwaso emphasized the need for strong commitments. He firmly stated that he would not allow himself to be used and discarded again.

Nonetheless, Kwankwaso expressed his openness to joining the APC.

He stated, “If you’re asking us to join the APC, you need to explain what benefits NNPP will receive. We have gubernatorial candidates in every state and a complete nationwide structure. What can you offer them if we decide to align with you?”

Eight years under the APC with former President Muhammadu Buhari brought us nothing, not even gratitude. When we requested a zonal party chairman from PDP, our request was denied. We made a peaceful exit and today stand strong with integrity.

“We are prepared to join the APC, but only with firm commitments and assurances. We will not permit anyone to take advantage of us and then discard us.”
