Kogi SWAp training to reduce maternal mortality, child morbidity rates

The Commissioner for Health in Kogi State, Dr. Abdulazeez Adeiza, has said that the implementation of the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) initiative in Kogi State will lead to reductions in maternal mortality and child morbidity rates in the state.Buy vitamins and supplements

Dr. Adeiza made this statement at the closing ceremony of a four-day workshop held in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The Guardian reports that the workshop was organised by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII), Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and various partners.

In his closing remarks, the Commissioner noted that the training of top health officials in the state through the SWAp initiative would strengthen the healthcare system and facilitate easier implementation and application.

He stated, “Government is pleased to have through this workshop trained health managers and planning officers of the state on developing operational plans, with a focus on people-centred planning and effective implementation of the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) initiative.”Buy vitamins and supplements

The Commissioner, who was represented by the state’s Director of Health Planning, Research, and Statistics, Mr. Johnson Aiyedogbon, remarked that the initiative represents a major shift towards a more streamlined and effective healthcare system in the state.

In his remarks, Mr. Luter Orkar, the National Facilitator, SCO, Federal Ministry of Health, praised Kogi State for its commitment to the SWAp initiative, noting it was the first state to cascade the training.

Orkar urged participants to make use of the knowledge gained from the training to demonstrate leadership and take ownership of the programme to advance the health sector. Buy vitamins and supplements

Dr. Emmanuel Bola Jonah, Desk Officer of SWAP Kogi State, expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for providing leadership and rallying support for the workshop.

“Particularly that the training has equipped you with the skill to focus on strategies for implementing the 2026 Annual Operational Plan (AOP) and prioritising needs in the face of dwindling international funding,” Jonah said.

The programme partners praised the state government for prioritising the health sector and assured ongoing support to help the state attain its health goals.

The workshop was attended by 65 participants from the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state, including health officials, programme and planning officers, monitoring and evaluation officers, and other key stakeholders involved in budget planning.
