The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has commended the State House of Assembly for the recent amendment of the Traditional Rulers Council law, saying the development will strengthen the existing unity and peace in the State.
Governor Eno announced this earlier today during the September monthly prayer meeting held at the Latter House Chapel, Governor’s Lodge, Uyo.
Speaking at the event, Governor Eno expressed gratitude to all members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for their collective effort at ensuring that lasting peace is restored to the state through the amended law which according to him, now gives way for rotational leadership of the institution which reflects the will of the people.
He used the opportunity to advise Akwa Ibom citizens and public office holders to engage in activities and actions that promote peace, unity, and progress of the State, rather than promote tribalism and ethnicity that create unnecessary division in the State.
“Yesterday, the House of Assembly amended the Traditional Rulers Law of this State that has made way now for rotational leadership. I wish to thank them for working very hard for the peace of the State.
“The law has been amended now. So people that felt it was one sided, I am sure it is balanced now.
For those of you who were angry that it shouldn’t have been amended, please don’t be angry. Leadership is give and take. When things affect the people, you cannot keep quiet.
“When they want to divide us, they tell us you are Ibibio, you are Annang, you are Oro because they want to divide us for their interest. We are all Akwa Ibomites, and we pursue only one and same goal,” he added.
Speaking on the forthcoming Local Government Election, Governor Eno urged stakeholders to be actively involved and campaign on issues and the many successes of the PDP led State government.
In his message, on the theme, “Pray for those in Authority,” taken from 1 Timothy 2:1-4, Bishop (Prof) Ahaziah Umanah, Superintendent Bishop of The First Temple Church of Nazarene, urged pastors and religious leaders to always pray for those in authority as commanded by God.
