FL Remi Tinubu Condemns Assault of Women at Ozoro Festival, Demands Justice

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has strongly condemned the assault of women and girls during the Alue-Do Festival in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, describing the incident as “barbaric” and unacceptable.

In a statement released on Monday, the First Lady said she was deeply disturbed by viral footage showing girls being physically and sexually assaulted during what was meant to be a cultural celebration. She stressed that while Nigeria prides itself on its rich cultural heritage, no tradition should infringe on the dignity and fundamental rights of women and girls.

Mrs Tinubu stated that no custom or practice justifies violence or degradation against women, insisting that perpetrators must be held accountable.

She commended the Nigeria Police Force for the arrests already made in connection with the incident and urged authorities to ensure that all those responsible are prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The First Lady also advised victims of the attack to seek immediate medical and psychological support, offering prayers for their healing, peace, and strength in the aftermath of the incident.

The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage on social media, has renewed calls for stricter enforcement of laws protecting women and girls across the country.
