Ambassador Shakirullah Jimoh Ora’nkan has emerged as the candidate of the Accord Party for the Oyo Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the party’s primary election conducted by its National Working Committee (NWC).

Ora’nkan was officially declared winner and returned as the party’s flag bearer by the Returning Officer for the governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly primaries, Hon. Abdurahman Danladi Muhammad.

Muhammad, who led the three-member NWC team that supervised the primary election in Oyo State, made the declaration at Islamic Primary School, Moniya, Ibadan, in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, security personnel, party delegates, leaders and stakeholders.

Announcing the results, the returning officer stated that Ora’nkan secured a total of 73,891 votes from delegates across the 11 local government areas that make up Oyo Central Senatorial District.

He also confirmed that Ora’nkan was the only aspirant cleared by the party’s screening committee to contest for the senatorial ticket.

“I can assure you that Ambassador Ora’nkan was passed by the screening committee in Abuja; I am the Secretary of the Committee. No other candidate contested for Oyo Central Senatorial District except Ambassador Ora’nkan,” Muhammad said.

He commended the delegates for their confidence in the candidate and disclosed that a Certificate of Return would be presented to Ora’nkan at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking shortly after his declaration, Ambassador Ora’nkan described the victory as a significant step toward repositioning Oyo Central for sustainable development and improved representation.

He expressed appreciation to delegates and party members for entrusting him with the mandate, pledging to address challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, poor welfare and unfulfilled promises affecting constituents.

According to him, his legislative agenda is designed to reflect the needs and aspirations of the people of Oyo Central.

“My words are my bond. I will not say what I will not do. I believe more in actions that bring progress and development than in sweet talks,” he said.

Ora’nkan further appealed to party leaders, delegates, members of the Ora’nkan Support Group (OSG), supporters and other stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He expressed confidence that with unity and commitment, the party would record a resounding victory at the polls.
