The Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Professor Adenike Oladiji, has praised the resilience and determination of Ruth Omole, a student of the institution.

She gave the commendation while receiving Ruth Omole. a PhD student in the Department of Food Science and Technology, who has gained attention for her commitment to commuting on campus by bicycle.

Professor Oladiji emphasized that Ruth’s story reflects the core values promoted at FUTA which showcases the strength and determination fostered among the students.

She said Ruth’s odyssey has not only inspired her peers but also strengthened the sense of tenacity and doggedness of the students.

According to Professor Oladiji, about 90 percent of FUTA students embody resilience as a result of their training.

“Ruth’s initiative is a major example of the qualities we strive to instill in our students, and it manifests in virtually every aspect of their lives,” she noted.

The Vice Chancellor encouraged other students to actively display their skills and talents, asserting that the training received at FUTA equips them to face challenges confidently while pointing out the increased awareness surrounding alternative commuting methods inspired by Ruth’s choice.

The Vice Chancellor further noted that the University would consider initiatives to promote safety on campus, advising students to use protective gear and adhere to safety guidelines which will be provided while exploring new transportation options.
She also urged students to remain resilient, choose practical and affordable solutions, and pursue their interests passionately while highlighting three key messages from Ruth’s lessons, that is : develop a keen interest in something, pursue it diligently, and seek alternatives when necessary.
