The gates of the University of Ibadan have been locked by staff of the institution, who are currently protesting against the alleged imposition of the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Kayode Adebowale as the next Vice-Chancellor.

Multiple individuals and unions of the varsity have alleged that the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka is doing everything to ensure the emergence of his anointed candidate, Adebowale.’

It was learnt that the protest by the workers was brought about by the release of the name of the six candidates shortlisted for the position out of those jostling for the seat. Adebowale is one of those shortlisted.

The workers blocked all entry and exit points into the institution, chanting various aluta songs such as “we no go gree oo, we no go gree, Imposition we no go gree.”

They also held placards with various inscriptions like: “Impose Adebowale and shut down UI for six years, ” “we shall never work with Alatise again among others.”
