President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the final amendments to the 2022 Electoral Act Bill into law.

The signing took place at the State House in Abuja, marking another step in the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral system.

Speaking after assenting to the bill, Tinubu said the amendments were not politically motivated but aimed at improving the electoral process and addressing gaps observed in previous election cycles.

“After every election cycle, we owe Nigerians an honest look at what worked and what must work better. That is how serious democracies behave, and our laws must grow with experience,” the President said.

He explained that the amendments are designed to strengthen procedures, close loopholes, and provide clearer guidelines for election administrators and participants.

“These amendments are not about politics. They are about process. They are about closing gaps, strengthening procedures, and providing greater clarity to those who conduct and participate in our elections,” he added.

Tinubu stressed the need for public confidence in the electoral system, noting that voters must be assured of transparency and credibility from polling units to the declaration of results.

“When citizens walk into a polling unit, they must do so with confidence. When results are declared, they must be trusted,” he said.

The President also commended the National Assembly for its cooperation and commitment in concluding the legislative process.

He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and ensuring that the will of the people is expressed peacefully and credibly.
