Tinubu Proposes Visa Waivers As Nigeria, Saint Lucia Establish Diplomatic Ties

President Bola Tinubu has suggested granting visa waivers to individuals with diplomatic and official passports from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), following the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Saint Lucia.

He announced this on Monday during a special joint session of the Senate and House of Assembly of Saint Lucia, held at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom in Sandals Grande, Gros Islet.

The president highlighted the significance of people-to-people interactions and urged OECS nations to respond positively to Nigeria’s proposal for a visa waiver.

“I’m here to respectfully call for a mutual gesture that would facilitate easier movement of officials and enhance institutional cooperation. My presence today represents Nigeria’s renewed dedication to revitalizing these lasting connections, acknowledging their strategic importance and emotional value,” Tinubu stated.

On Monday, June 30, 2025, President Tinubu delivered a speech to the parliament of Saint Lucia.

He referred to the establishment of diplomatic relations as a “symbolic bridge that will serve as a gateway for nurturing closer connections between us.”

The address was a significant milestone in President Tinubu’s current tour of two nations across the Caribbean and South America, which commenced with his arrival in Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia, on Saturday.

In his speech, President Tinubu suggested establishing a joint commission or political consultation agreement to facilitate organized collaboration between Nigeria and the OECS. OYO NEWS
