Thieves reportedly broke into the newly inaugurated 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State.

It was gathered by Oyo News that the thieves carted away electronic equipment worth millions of naira.

This comes about a month after its commissioning, as the hospital was commissioned in February by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

Operatives of the Amotekun Corps in Ogun State, who confirmed the incident, said they arrested three suspects in connection with the crime.

According to the Amotekun Commandant in the state, David Akinremi, the suspects made away with six 43-inch Hisense television sets, two 65-inch Bruhm television sets, three Bruhm fridges, one Midea refrigerator and three Lontor rechargeable standing fans, all valued at N3 million.

Akinremi said the prime suspect, one Ogunjembola Kehinde, had led his gang to burgle the hospital and was arrested following a complaint of burglary and stealing by one Kehinde Banjoko.

Banjoko was said to have reported to the Amotekun Corps that some unknown persons broke into her apartment while she went to Lagos and stole her generator, gas cylinder, standing fan, mattresses, rug and others, valued at about N500,000.

“Based on actionable intelligence, the prime suspect was arrested, and upon interrogation, he admitted that he committed the alleged crime with one other now at large. His admission led to the recovery of all the items stolen from one Lawal Aliu, who is the criminal receiver”, Akinremi said.

The Commandant noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other criminal receivers mentioned by the suspects.
