Tetfund Commissions Projects Worth N4.089B

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has commissioned two major projects worth N4.089 billion at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Niger State, under its 2023 Special High Impact and 2020/2021 merged interventions.

The projects include the remodeled University Senate Building, constructed at N1.58 billion, and the Faculty of Law Complex, built at N2.50 billion. TETFund’s Board Chairman, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, commended the University for Effective Use of resources and reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to supporting quality teaching, research, and innovation.

He said the projects align with the Federal Government’s drive to modernize tertiary institutions, while highlighting challenges such as the suspension of foreign training for lecturers due to forex issues and cases of abscondment.

TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc Sonny Echono, represented by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Arc Babatunde Olajide, described the projects as vital to advancing Nigeria’s higher education system and fostering innovation.

Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, represented by his deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, lauded the Faculty of Law Complex as one of the largest in West Africa, equipped with over 100 offices, an e-library, and a moot court.

IBBU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Suleiman, expressed appreciation to TETFund and the state government, describing the projects as milestones in the university’s development. He also sought TETFund’s support for the construction of a major student hostel.
