Tanzania Names Major Road After AfDB President, Adesina

Tanzania President Suluhu Samia Hassan has named the 112.3-kilometer Outer Ring Road of Tanzania’s capital city of Dodoma after the outgoing President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.

The road was named “Dr. Akinwumi Adesina Road” on Saturday during an inspection tour of the road project, which was largely funded by the AfDB.

The event was attended by Adesina and his wife, former President Jakaya Kikwete, key government officials, and community members.

Speaking, President Samia praised Dr. Adesina for his transformative leadership and unwavering support for Tanzania’s development agenda.

Dr. Adesina has had significant interactions with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

The road, which encircles Dodoma, the nation’s rapidly growing administrative capital, is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve regional connectivity.

During his visit to Tanzania, Dr. Adesina, the President of the African Development Bank Group, joined President Hassan in launching the construction of the Dodoma City Outer Ring Road project.

The $214.69 million project aims to improve accessibility, reduce transport costs, and boost economic growth in the region.

Dr. Adesina also paid homage to the late Tanzanian President John Magufuli, describing him as “a dear friend, brother, and partner” in development.

He praised Magufuli’s vision for Tanzania and his bold initiatives, including mega infrastructure projects like the Standard Gauge Railway.

Given Dr. Adesina’s contributions to Tanzania’s development through the African Development Bank, it’s possible that such recognition may occur in the future.

Minister of Works, Mr Abdallah Ulega, described the road as “a backbone for the future of Dodoma.”

Adesina, who has served two terms as AfDB President, is widely regarded for his visionary leadership and commitment to inclusive growth across the continent.
