Streets agog as Ilesa residents honour new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland

From Shops and business areas were under lock and key in the ancient city of Ilesa in Osun State as residents honoured their newly installed traditional ruler, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, during his coronation.

Checks by The Guardian revealed that shops along Atakunmosa market, which surrounds the palace of Owa and other business environments, were locked as residents celebrated the coronation of their king.

Also, virtually all commercial transporters in the city refused to ply the roads in honour of the paramount ruler of Ijesaland.

Many sons and daughters of the ancient kingdom were seen in beautiful attire, most of whom were in uniform, whining and dining at various restaurants and drinking joints in celebration of the moment. 

Others hired a band to sing praises of the new Oba as trumpets blasted in loud tones amid singing and dancing by indigenes who were visibly overwhelmed with joy for the enthronement of Oba Haastrup.

The entire town was agog with dignitaries who trooped in to participate in the epoch-making ceremony.

It was a busy day for security agents and road traffic officials who struggled to maintain law and order as crowds rushed to the palace to catch a glimpse of the coronation event.

At the end of the well-attended coronation event inside the Owa Obokun Adimula Hall situated within the palace, all roads led to the field of Ilesa Grammar School, where guests and indigenes were entertained.
