The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has accused the gubernatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress, Teslim Folarin of resorting to playing religious card ahead of Saturday’s governorship and State Assembly elections in the state.

Deputy DG, PDP
Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran

The party, through the Deputy director-general of its campaign council, Barr. Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, said Folarin, aware of his imminent defeat was whipping up sentiment to elicit sympathy for his party.

Adeniran spoke during an exclusive interview with Oyo News in ibadan today.

The opposition party had accused Governor Makinde, a Christian of not tolerating Muslims in the state.

However, Adeniran said APC was merely using sentiments as an escape route, adding that APC’s dismal outing on Saturday’s poll will have no religious undertone.

Responding further, Dr. Adeniran said urged Folarin to counsel his adherents on the need for peaceful coexistence in the state.

Adeniran said Governor Makinde’s aides and Advisers are mostly Muslims, who observe prayers in his personal house.

He appealed to residents in the State to ignore any provocative video on the social media promoting religious politics, adding that Makinde’s gesture to him and other Muslims in the State is unequal.

He said the APC’s loss in 2019 which was as a result of its failure to meet the yearning and aspiration of the people, will be replicated on Saturday.

“We, at Oyo PDP are not unaware of the religious card Oyo APC is playing. Unfortunately, it is a dead-on-arrival mission. APC will lose the guber and Assembly seats because of the failure of the party from way back in Oyo State”, he said.

“I am calling on the people of Oyo state to come out enmasse and vote for Governor Seyi Makinde. Please, do not reward the opposition party by allowing them to destabilise us with religious sentiments or create division among us.”
