Shooting Stars Stun Warri Wolves With Late Double
Shooting Stars staged a dramatic late comeback to snatch all three points in a thrilling NPFL Matchday 6 encounter against Warri Wolves at the Southern Delta University Main Bowl, Ozoro.
The game opened with both sides testing each other cautiously, but it was Shooting Stars who enjoyed the bulk of possession in the early exchanges. Despite their dominance on the ball, the Oluyole Warriors struggled to carve out clear chances in the first half. Warri Wolves, however, had a few promising moments but failed to seriously test goalkeeper Godgift El Kanah.
The breakthrough came in the 52nd minute when Warri Wolves punished a defensive lapse to go 1–0 ahead. That setback sparked urgency in the visitors’ play, and head coach Nurudeen Aweroro quickly rang the changes, introducing Ismail Ayodele and Qamar Adegoke for Sodiq Ibrahim and Promise Awosanmi.
The substitutions injected new life into the attack, and later in the half Emmanuel Ndubueze and Adams Mustapha were brought on for Ayobami Junior and Abiodun Adegoke to further intensify the push for an equalizer.
The pressure finally told in the 82nd minute when substitute Qamar Adegoke leveled the score with a precise finish. His passionate celebration, which saw him remove his shirt, earned him a yellow card, but it underlined the significance of the moment.
Barely four minutes later, in the 86th minute, Adams Mustapha completed the turnaround with a composed strike to make it 2–1. He almost doubled his tally moments later, but his effort sailed just over the bar.
The match also saw Gbolagade booked in the first half, adding bite to what was an otherwise lively contest. Despite a late surge from the Seasiders, Shooting Stars held their ground to secure a famous away win.
Resilience, bold tactical adjustments, and impactful contributions from the bench proved decisive for the Oluyole Warriors, who now return to Ibadan buoyed by back-to-back victories.
The Oluyole Warriors will next host Plateau United this weekend, in what promises to be another mouthwatering NPFL match day 7 fixture.
