Reps Give WEAC 24hours To Explain Controversial Exam
The House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education Examination Bodies has issued a 24-hour ultimatum for the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) to submit a comprehensive report detailing the circumstances surrounding the controversial conduct of the 2025 English Language examination.
The committee also expressed dissatisfaction over the poor handling of the examination, which was controversially held at midnight.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Oforji Oboku, stressed the importance of accountability and transparency in the education sector.
During the session, lawmakers described the situation as “unacceptable” and called for immediate reforms to safeguard the credibility of national examinations.
In his remarks, Mr. Dangut apologised to candidates, the House, and the Nigerian public, attributing the late-night conduct of the examination to efforts to salvage the situation after questions were leaked earlier in the day.
According to him, the decision, though regrettable, was taken to preserve the integrity of the examination after it was discovered that the materials had been compromised. OYO NEWS
