President Bola Tinubu has conferred highest national honour, Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON, on the visiting Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.

National honour

Modi is the second foreign dignitary to have received the GCON national honour after Queen Elizabeth II in 1969.

President Tinubu emphasized that the honour is “to signify our appreciation of India as Nigeria’s partner.”

“Both leaders will exchange signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to enhance collaboration in critical sectors,” the Presidency said on Saturday.

At the event in Abuja, the President said the conferment of the honour was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the two countries further.

President Tinubu said he was confident that his discussions with Prime Minister would enhance Nigeria-India relations on the basis of mutual respect and shared mission.

Prime Minister Modi said he had a very productive discussion with President Tinubu on the need to add momentum to the strategic partnership of the two countries.

He said there was immense scope for ties between them to flourish even further in defence, energy, technology, trade, health, and education.
