PDP Jigawa caucus backs leadership, seeks INEC action on by-election misconduct

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State turned up the heat on Saturday as its Expanded Caucus threw weight behind the party’s national leadership while demanding the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) act decisively on allegations of misconduct during the Babura/Garki by-election.

The emergency meeting, chaired by state chairman Babandi Ibrahim and attended by party heavyweights including former governor Sule Lamido, Senator Mustapha Khabeeb, and 2023 governorship candidate Mustapha Sule Lamido, reaffirmed “unalloyed loyalty” to the PDP’s organs ahead of the upcoming national convention.

But beyond party solidarity, the caucus sharpened its tone on electoral integrity, urging INEC to be vigilant.

The caucus strongly called on INEC to take appropriate disciplinary action against the three members of its staff who were petitioned for misconduct during the recently conducted Babura/Garki Federal Constituency by-election.

The gathering also appealed for calm and unity among members as the 2027 race gathers steam, stressing that only discipline and cohesion can keep the PDP competitive in Jigawa and nationally.
