The Oyo State Government on Wednesday commenced screening of shortlisted candidates contesting as members of the 2nd Assembly of the Oyo State Youths Parliament.

The exercise which took place at the premises of the Ministry of Youths and Sports was part of measures put in place by the Ministry to ensure smooth and credible reconstitution of the 2nd Youth Parliament.

The Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Seun Fakorede said the Ministry will be impartial in its conduct by providing a level playing ground for all the participants.

Recall that Governor Seyi Makinde had approved the reconstitution of the 2nd Assembly in April, 2021.

“This is in furtherance to the advertisement that was made on April 23, 2021 based on the approval of the Governor of the State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde for the Reconstitution”, Fakorede said.

“The Youth Parliament is part of the commitment of the State Government to ensure that Youths are given a place in decision-making as this will help prepare them for the task of governance and community development ahead”, he added.

The Oyo Youth Parliament is aimed at improving and increasing the participation of youths in the state in active politics.

Present as members of the committee were the SA on Youth & Sports, Kazeem Bolarinwa, SA on Student Affairs, Victor Olojede, Representatives of the OYHA, NDLEA, NOA, NYCN, Directors of the Agency for Youth Development and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, while the PDP Youth Leader, Michael Ogunsina was an observer.

According Fokorede, the exercise will last for three days to give room for adequate screening of all the candidates.

He added that successful candidates will inaugurated afterwards.
