The Oyo State Government has endorsed, a special musical play, designed to commemorate Democracy Day and Governor Seyi Makinde’s 3rd anniversary.

The stage play, ‘Makinde’ held on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at the Ibadan Civic Centre, Agodi, Ibadan is a non-fictional display of the birth and life-time of Governor Seyi Makinde, using song and dance to tell the story.

The stage play, Makinde, which was inspired by Ayo George, was told with an attractive combination of vitality and glamour by great entertainers including students from Arts Theatre of the University of Ibadan, under the guide of talented writer and director, Mrs. Toyin Adegbola.

Speaking at the event, Commissioner said the play is an opportunity for the State Government to show its unrelenting love for young-minds.

“We heartily endorse this stage play, Makinde to add to the conversation surrounding the celebration of Democracy Day and the third year anniversary of Governor Makinde’s first term. The play is bound to educate, inform and entertain its audience on the rich yoruba culture and the power of resilience.”

He said the Governor’s unrelenting love for development yielded the securing of sole ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) for Oyo state.

Olatubosun added that since inception, the State Government has ensured free education is delivered to primary and secondary school students.

Adding that the Oyo Government has made necessary supports available for ingenious ideas to thrive in the State, Olatubosun said Primary Health Centres in 200 Wards out of 351 wards have been commissioned by the State Government, while ninety-nine PHCs have been completed recently.

On Security, Olatubosun hinted that 1500 Amotekun Personnel are in the State Government’s payroll, which exceeds the number of Amotekun Personnel in other South western states.

Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun said the State Government has expanded the economy, through infrastructural development.

The Commissioner also hinted that the State Government has paid over N18 billion Naira gratuity to 5000 pensioners, despite the dwindling revenue.

Speaking earlier, the Artistic Director. Ayo George said that the play tells the story of Seyi Makinde’s birth, courage, and bravery in a unique way.

“It leans lightly on historical facts with a blend of songs and comedy to give it a contemporary depth. It is a story that will drive into the audience, emotions as they would witness a dipiction of the struggles faced by a leading protagonist and mother of our Governor, Late Chief Mrs. Abigail Makinde as she struggled through birth.

He added that the production will no doubt redefine the way people see Governor Seyi Makinde, whom he described as a unique man.

“This is a specially-commissioned musical play that celebrates excellence, bravery and courage”, he said.

The event was attended by a Senior Permanent Secretary in the State Civil service, Mr. Oye Oyedele; the Iyaloja-General of Oyo State, Alh. Sarata Aduke Konibaje; MD, Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat; Chairman, Nigeria union of Journalists, Mr. Demola Babalola among others.
