Oyetunde Family Cries Out Over Incessant Land Invasion, Destruction of Property
The Oyetunde family, a prominent Ibadan royal lineage, has raised a red flag over the incessant invasion of their ancestral land at Ayegun Olomi Olojuoro Village in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State by land grabbers.
Baale Jelili Oyetunde, who spoke on behalf of the family, alleged that the land grabbers are backed by High Chief Amidu Ajibade and an official of the Oyo State Anti-Land Grabbing Agency, Busari Isa, who seem determined to trample on the family’s rights.
The family accused High Chief Ajibade and Mr. Busari Isa of supporting Baale Alimi Yusuf Lafiku, Saheed Olawoyin Omo Egun, Morufu Okeseyin, and Baale Olonde Ige in their bid to forcefully take over the family land.
It was gathered that Baale Alimi Yusuf Lafiku, a former witness to the Oyetunde family’s land sale agreements, has turned against them, laying claim to the land.
Baale Oyetunde lamented that despite court judgments from 1910, 1922, and 1938, and a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 1939 affirming the family’s ownership, the land grabbers continue their activities with impunity.
“Adding salt to injury, another case was instituted in court in 2022, and it’s still pending. Yet, these people haven’t let up on their quest to take over our land,” Baale Oyetunde exclaimed.
“They are invading our land, destroying our properties, and injuring our people, all while a court case is still ongoing. It’s a clear case of might makes right, and we won’t stand for it.”
The family, therefore, appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to step in and ensure justice is served.
They also urged the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to call High Chief Ajibade to order.
“We want peace, but we won’t sit idly by while our land is being taken over. We’ll fight tooth and nail to protect our heritage,” Baale Oyetunde warned.
Oyetunde family, which has produced two past Olubadans—Olubadan Petuoshin Oyetunde I and Olubadan Shittu Akintola Oyetunde II— said they remain resolute in their determination to protect their ancestral land.
