Osun Gov. Appoints Davido to Head State Sports Trust Fund

In a notable move from the Government House in Osogbo, Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, has appointed his nephew, Davido (David Adeleke), as Chairman of the newly-established State Sports Trust Fund. 

The announcement was conveyed during a visit by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun chapter, where the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports outlined the government’s ambition to reposition sports in the state.

According to him, the appointment is designed to leverage Davido’s global profile and network to attract funding and visibility for Osun’s sports development agenda.

The move has been described by the administration as part of a broader strategy to build sustainable funding models through public-private partnerships and to establish a dedicated sports commission in the state.

However, the decision has already drawn varied reactions among residents and sports stakeholders, with some praising the fresh approach to sports financing, while others raise questions about the optics of appointing a family member to a key post.
