Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Governor Seyi Makinde and other dignitaries yesterday commissioned the newly constructed Oyo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

OYO NEWS understands that the lodge which is located at No 2, John Kadiya Close, Abuja, was built through alternative project funding approach (APFA) at the cost of N1,201,760,000.

The event was attended by big-wigs in Oyo State political arena, including the National Deputy Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Taofeek Arapaja; Wife of the Governor, Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde; Senators-elect from Oyo State, House of Representatives members-elect, former Commissioner for Works and Housing, Prof. Daud Kehinde Sangodoyin among others.

At the launch of the imposing edifice, Governor Seyi Makinde said his state remains loyal to the progress of Oyo State and would work to deliver the dividends of democracy to its people.

Governor Seyi Makinde, while expressing gratitude to the Vice President, said his administration embarked on contructing the new Oyo State Government Lodge to ensure reduction in Government’s expenditure on accommodation and lodging when government officials need to visit Abuja.

He said, “We are grateful to His Excellency, Prof. Osinbajo who honoured our invitation to commission the newly constructed Oyo State Government Lodge in Abuja today. Our administration embarked on this project to ensure that we have a lodge that is fit for purpose and thereby, reduce our expenditure on accommodation and lodging when government officials need to visit Abuja”.

Osinbajo who commended Makinde, said he had transformed the state and would be leaving it better than he met it.

He said the edifice speaks the mind of the Governor and his strides at infrastructural development in the state, urging him to continue with the good work.

According to the former commissioner for works, Daud Kehinde Sangodoyin, the construction of the edifice started in 2021 and was completed in early 2023, adding that it was another feather to the mantra of development celebrated across the length and breadth of the State.

He added that the lodge has the Governor’s Lodge, Deputy Governor’s Lodge, some chalets, fittings and some furniture, which he said are of modern type, adding that this was part of the present administration’s legacy.
