The 7th National Youth Games dubbed Asaba 2023 came to an end with pomp and pageantry at the main bowl of the Stephen Keshi Stadium with various states marching out with their various team colours.
Hosts Delta state ended up as overall winners of the competition after amassing 51 gold, 34 silver and 31 bronze medals. Lagos state was runner-up with 21 gold, 19 silver and 21 silver while Edo State completes the top three with 21 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals.
The Minister of Sports Development Senator John Owan Enoh who was represented by Patrick Okeke, Director, Grassroot Sports Development expressed his joy at the successful completion of the games in Asaba.
He enjoined state governments to make sports development paramount in their respective domains.
Team Oyo at the end of the games finished with 4 gold, 4 silver and 9 bronze medals. The Pacesetter state participated in 25 different sports where 167 athletes were put to test.
The National Youth Games is an annual national sporting event for athletes below the age of fifteen.
Delta State has retained the hosting rights for the next edition in 2024.
