NSCDC nabs notorious railway vandals in Nasarawa

The operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nasarawa State Command, says it has once again made a major break through in its sustained crackdown on railway vandals and economic saboteurs following the arrest of two suspected vandals in the state.

The NSCDC State Commandant, Brah Samson-Umoru, disclosed this through the command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Jerry Victor, at a press briefing in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.

He said the two suspects were apprehended at the crime scene following a credible information, of their ongoing illegal activities in the area.

He mentioned the names of the suspects to include Mohammed Sale 21 years, male and Mohammed Mailafiya 43 years, male.

According to him, both suspects are from Agyaragu Village in the Lafia Local Government Area of the state.

The commandant further narrated that the swift response of the NSCDC operatives led to the arrest of the suspects before further damage could be inflicted on critical railway infrastructure.

While emphasising that the Corps remains resolute in its mandate to protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure across the State, Umoru described railway vandalism as a serious economic crime capable of sabotaging national development and endangering public safety.

According to him, the latest arrest comes barely one week after the command paraded five (5) notorious railway vandals and recovered over thirty-three (33) cut rails alongside other materials used in perpetrating the criminal act.

He stated that the command’s intensified surveillance and intelligence-driven operations are already yielding tangible results.

While issuing a stern warning against vandals and economic saboteurs in the state, Brah Samson Umoru warned, “The Command under my leadership will not relent in its efforts at ridding Nasarawa State of crime and criminality.

“We are determined to make the state completely inhabitable for criminal elements. They have only one option — to turn a new leaf. If not, we will continue to hunt them down and bring them to justice.”

He further cautioned that as the electioneering campaigns draw nearer, some criminal elements may attempt to exploit the period to foment unrest and perpetrate unlawful activities within communities.

Therefore, the NSCDC boss stressed that the command will not tolerate any act capable of disrupting the peace and security of the state.

“As we approach the electioneering period, we are aware that some individuals may want to use this opportunity to create unrest. The NSCDC in Nasarawa State will not tolerate such actions. We are fully prepared to deal decisively with anyone or group found wanting,” he vowed.

Meanwhile, the commandant promised law-abiding citizens of the Corps’ unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and securing all critical national assets.

He then admonished members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
