No Agreement in Akinyele: PDP Consensus Meeting Ends Without Candidate

Efforts by leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State to produce a consensus candidate for the House of Assembly seat in Akinyele Constituency 2 have ended in a stalemate.

The stakeholders’ meeting, held at the Ibadan residence of former council chairman Engr. Julius Akinsola, failed to yield a unified position as the four aspirants: Hon. Oluniyi Oladejo, Hon. Olatunde Kehinde, incumbent lawmaker Hon. Oludele Adetunji, and Solomon Olalere, did not reach an agreement.

The situation became more complicated after a group within the meeting reportedly attempted to conduct a voting process and announced a “preferred candidate,” a move that deepened internal disagreements.

Top party figures, including the State Commissioner for Education, Engr. Segun Olayiwola, and former Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Jeleel Adeleke, rejected the attempt to impose any aspirant, insisting that no valid consensus had been reached.

Adeleke, in particular, described the purported voting as a violation of Governor Seyi Makinde’s directive on achieving a genuine consensus.

While the party successfully secured consensus in Akinyele Constituency 1, granting the first-term lawmaker there an automatic return ticket, the process for Constituency 2 remains unresolved.

With the deadlock persisting, party leaders say the final decision on the PDP flag bearer for the constituency will now be determined by Governor Makinde.
