Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan disowns viral investment video
The Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has cautioned members of the public against a viral video circulating on social media that falsely shows her endorsing a fraudulent investment platform.
In a statement released on Sunday through her official social media pages, the lawmaker described the clip as a manipulated video designed by fraudsters to mislead unsuspecting Nigerians into parting with their money.
Akpoti-Uduaghan explained that the video was altered from a past interview she granted to television journalist Seun Okinbaloye, noting that scammers edited the footage and repurposed it to promote a fake investment opportunity.
According to her, although the video appears to carry her voice and likeness, it is completely fabricated and should not be considered authentic.
She said the discovery of the video highlights the growing sophistication of online scams, where criminals exploit the identity of public figures to gain credibility and lure victims.
The senator urged Nigerians to disregard the clip entirely and avoid any financial engagement linked to the purported investment scheme.
She also encouraged the public to report any social media page or platform hosting the misleading video to help curb its spread and protect others from falling victim.
Akpoti-Uduaghan further called on relevant authorities and social media companies to take swift action against those responsible for creating and distributing the fraudulent content.
The Kogi Central lawmaker emphasized the need for heightened vigilance online, warning citizens to carefully verify investment opportunities before committing their resources.
Her warning comes amid a surge in digital fraud cases, with scammers increasingly using manipulated videos and artificial intelligence tools to imitate well-known personalities and promote deceptive schemes promising unrealistic financial returns.
