Mustapha Adams emerged the hero as his solitary strike, earned Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) a 1-0 win over Katsina United in a Matchday eight fixture.

The Ibadan soccer lords, playing before their fans at the Lekan Salami Stadium, had the game under control, creating many scoring chances but were yet again, undone by poor finishing.

Coach Gbenga Ogunbote, rang changes in the attack, throwing Mustapha Adams into the starting line up, to combine with Ayanrinde Samuel.

The Oluyole Warriors, desperately in need of a win, after going winless in the last three games, swooped on the Chanji Boys right from the blast of the whistle but could not find the breakthrough, despite creating chances after chances.

Despite the heavy rain which started later in the game, the homers continued to dominate but their efforts did not yield until the end of the first half.

The Oluyole Warriors came into the second half more determined to get the much needed goal, pilling more pressure on the visitors.

However, it was the visitors who nearly got the opener, but goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal pulled a stunning save to keep the Oluyole Warriors in the game.

Katsina United’s resistance was broken in the 67th minute, when Mustapha Adam’s long range shot, took a slight deflection, beating the visitors’ goalie, to send the fans into wild jubilation.

That turned out to be the only goal of the match, as both sides’ efforts to further hit the target, proved abortive till the end of the game

The win has increased Shooting Stars’ points haul to nine from eight matches and the Ibadan soccer lords will remain at home next weekend for a Matchday nine clash against Akwa United of Uyo.
