MTN expands campus empowerment as FUTO student wins N30m car

Telecommunications company, MTN Nigeria, has extended its campus engagement programme, MTN Pulse, to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), where students participated in a weekend event that combined entertainment with entrepreneurship opportunities.

During the event, a 500-level student of Biochemistry, Nduka Judith Chidera, won a Changan ALVSIN V3 car valued at about N30 million through a raffle draw. Other participants went home with laptops, microwaves, mobile phones, power banks, and other electronic accessories.

Speaking at the ceremony, MTN’s Youth Segment Manager, Femi Adesina, explained that the initiative was designed to connect with young people beyond telecommunications services. He said the company’s goal was to support students with platforms that encourage both empowerment and entertainment.

“We don’t want to only look as collecting money. We want to also give out, give back to society. This is an empowerment and entertainment programme,” Adesina stated.

He added that the Pulse project, which includes activities such as music performances, cinema sessions, and technology showcases like Virtual Reality and Augmented Movies, was created to build stronger engagement with students while giving them access to digital services, social media bundles, and MTN’s MoMo products.

According to him, the programme is structured as a “Student Interest Entrepreneur” project that provides students with opportunities to display their business ideas and talents.

“The main aim is to empower and entertain the students, and the most expensive part of this is the students will go home with their cars, a laptop, microwaves, phones and others. We connect emotionally to the young people across different campuses. We do it through empowerment and entertainment,” he said.

Adesina noted that the initiative had already been held at the University of Abuja, the University of Calabar, and the University of Ibadan.

He disclosed that subsequent editions would take place at the University of Benin, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Lagos, Ahmadu Bello University, and Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, to ensure broad regional coverage.

Chidera, who won the car at the FUTO edition, expressed appreciation to MTN for the platform and thanked God for the opportunity.
