Maiduguri Bombings: NANS tasks FG on students’ safety

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)has condemned the suicide bomb attacks that rocked Maiduguri, Borno State, resulting in the tragic loss of innocent lives and leaving many others injured.

Our correspondent reports that simultaneous explosions hit the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Monday market roundabout, and post office area perpetrated by suspected terrorists.

NANS in a press release issued to our correspondent on Tuesday, by its Zone E (North-East) coordinator, Comrade Mu’azu Hina, sympathised with the families of the victims and urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts in addressing insecurity in the North-East and ensure the safety of students, especially those studying in institutions within the region.

Hina said if public places like the university teaching hospital could be targeted, it calls for protection of schools and institutions to safeguard the lives of ‘innocent students’.

He also called on security agencies to launch immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation into the attack.

The students association advocated strengthening intelligence gathering and security presence in schools and vulnerable areas to prevent future occurrences.

“NANS also calls on Nigerian students nationwide to remain vigilant and security-conscious at all times. Students are encouraged to promptly report any suspicious movements, activities, or individuals to the appropriate security agencies.

“Collective vigilance and timely reporting are critical in preventing further acts of violence and safeguarding our communities.

“Terrorism in all its forms must be decisively confronted. The safety of Nigerian citizens, particularly students, must remain a top priority at all times”, he said.
