The Oyo State Government has repatriated the last set 55 female indigenes stranded in Lebanon.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Diaspora Affairs, Mrs. Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu revealed that the girls were gladly received on the Independence day by her office.
“The last batch of the remaining 55 Oyo State citizens trafficked to Lebanon arrived Nigeria today Independence Day”, she said.
Speaking exclusively to oyonews.com.ng, she disclosed that the girls, who were already identified as indigenes of Oyo state, have been profiled and registered with the Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon.
In her words: “The Governor took note of the plight of some of our girls who are being dehumanized in Lebanon, graciously gave his approval that the girls be repatriated and we are glad they are back in the country today”.
Sarumi- Aliyu also revealed that plans are in place to rehabilitate, empower, and reintegrate them back into the society after their return.
“Also, we ensured strict adherence to the COVID-19 safety protocols in the process of the repatriation, which would include isolating the girls and subjecting them to necessary tests upon their return as a precaution against infection.
“The Adminstration of Engr. Seyi Makinde the Executive Governor of Oyo State is indeed committed towards ensuring the Safety of Oyo State citizens irrespective of their location, (either home or in the Diaspora)”.
We are grateful to God for a leader such as Governor Makinde, whose commitment to the protection of citizens from actual or potential threats is beyond words”, Sarumi-Aliyu added.
