Lawyer petitions PSC, accuses IGP, Osun CP of rights abuse
A legal practitioner in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, Lekan Alabi, has petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC) over alleged unlawful arrest, human rights violations, and police interference in a land dispute already before a High Court in the state.
In the petition, dated August 7, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the PSC, Alabi accused the Inspector-General of Police, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 11, the Area Commander, Oke-Fia Osogbo, and the Commissioner of Police, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), of misconduct.
Signed by Alabi himself, the three-page petition detailed his complaints with supporting evidence.
The lawyer, while calling on the commission to “save his soul,” accused the officers of arbitrary arrest in a bid to distract him from pursuing the land matter to a logical conclusion.
Alabi explained that Madam Mistura had previously won a land case in Suit No. HOS/102/80: Shittu Ladimeji & 3 others vs. Ashiru Ajagbe & 6 others, and Suit No. HOS/71/93: Hephzibah Holdings Ltd. vs. Madam Sinatu Adeoye & 4 others.
He noted that the large expanse of land awarded to Busari by the Osun State High Court is located along Ikirun Road, Osogbo, Osun State.
According to Alabi, while the court judgment was being executed recently, owners of properties on the land attacked him, court staff, and bailiffs. As a result, he said the state governor directed the AIG Zone XI to investigate the matter. A report of the investigation was submitted, a copy of which Alabi attached to his petition to the PSC.
He also stated that the affected owners of buildings on the land had approached the court to set aside Busari’s warrant of possession, and that the court had fixed September 17 for the hearing of the pending applications.
“To the amazement of our client, officers from SWAT Abuja stormed the office of Mr. Lekan Alabi on the same 6th day of September 2025 and whisked him and Najeem Popoola away in an embarrassing manner over the execution exercise, which is still pending before the court,” the petition stated.
“Our clients informed them about the judgments on the land in favour of Madam Mistura Busari and clearly stated that the matter is still pending before the court.”
Alabi alleged that the judgment debtors and their agents had conspired with the AIG Zone XI, the Area Commander’s office, and the Osun State Commissioner of Police to arrest him and others arbitrarily in order to frustrate the enforcement of the court ruling.
“It is crystal clear that the conduct of the officers from SWAT, Abuja, constitutes misconduct, violation of human rights, and illegal meddling in a land dispute, which we humbly urge your esteemed office to discreetly investigate,” the petition added, urging the PSC to “save our soul.”
