The Kwara State Government under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commenced the dredging of flood-prone areas of the Asa River not included in the scope of the Federal Government.

The areas in Kwara State include: Oja-tuntun to Ita Amodu and Stadium to Unity Bridge.

According to the chief press secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, these efforts are to complement the project of the Federal Government in preventing perennial flooding and loss of lives and property.

The project commenced with the Aduralere to Sango Bridge, which was only recently included by the FG as part of its scope.

The kwara state government has therefore reallocated its contractors to the new areas to avoid duplication of efforts.

Meanwhile, the 16 Local Government Chairmen in Kwara State have taken delivery of 1,200 bags of rice of the Federal Government for onward distribution to the less privileged across the state to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

According to him, the youth constituency constitutes the largest demography not only in Nigeria, but also on the African continent.

“I therefore restate our administration’s commitment to empowering young people and assisting them to fulfil their aspirations”.

“Our administration will continue to be guided by the fact that young people have a stake in governance. To this extent, we’ll consolidate our policy of making them key players in government. Our administration will also continue to deploy resources to enhance the wellbeing of young people and develop their capacities, especially in digital skills, to flourish in the new economy”
