INEC Receives 110 Applications For Political Party Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that it has received letters of intent from 110 associations that are seeking to register as political parties.

OYO NEWS reports that the Chairman of the Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made this announcement on Wednesday, indicating that the requests are currently being processed in accordance with the applicable laws and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines.

“As of Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations wishing to register as political parties. We are carefully processing these requests in accordance with the procedures established by law, as well as our own regulations and guidelines. We have acknowledged all requests that have been received.

“To date, we have acknowledged all applications received, with the exception of six that were submitted recently. These will be acknowledged before the end of the week,” he stated.

Professor Yakubu encouraged Nigerians, particularly those interested in registering political parties, to refer to the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022, which can be found on the Commission’s website.

Additionally, the Commission has published the complete list of the 110 associations, which includes their proposed names, acronyms, addresses, and the names of their Chairmen and Secretaries.

“The list will be made available on our website and social media platforms shortly. Hard copies have also been provided in your folders for this meeting,” Yakubu concluded.
