INEC promotes 471 junior staff ahead of key elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 471 junior staff members across various levels, as part of its 2025 staff advancement exercise.
The decision was reached during the Commission’s regular weekly meeting held on Thursday, chaired by INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing preparations for several major electoral events, including the upcoming Anambra State Governorship Election, the Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the party primaries for the Ekiti and Osun State governorship races.
According to INEC, the promotions were based on the recommendations of the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee (APDC) and in line with the Commission’s Staff Conditions of Service.
Of the 515 staff shortlisted, 214 were promoted to Grade Level 07, 134 to Grade Level 06, 106 to Grade Level 05, and 17 to Grade Level 04.
“The promotion of junior staff concludes the first phase of the exercise. Next is the promotion of senior staff, which has also commenced in earnest.” INEC stated.
INEC noted that staff promotion is a routine process aimed at boosting morale and enhancing efficiency within the Commission.
It reaffirmed its commitment to a merit-based promotion system and urged all staff to rededicate themselves to service, especially in view of the critical electoral activities ahead.
