The Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government, Honourable Kehinde Akande, has said that the government duly served notices to illegal occupants and land invaders before demolishing structures along the Railway-110 Road corridor.

Akande explained that the demolition exercise was carried out to clear encroachments on the road reserve and setback areas, as part of preparations for the commencement of a major road construction project in the area.

According to him, affected occupants were first issued removal notices which expired without compliance, after which a reminder was served, giving them a final opportunity to relocate voluntarily before enforcement began.

He noted that the road construction project, which will take off on the cleared corridor, is expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve movement around the Aleshinloye, Ring Road and Iyanganku axis, thereby enhancing commuting experience and boosting economic activities within the metropolis.

The council chairman further stated that adequate security arrangements were made to ensure a peaceful and orderly operation, adding that relevant agencies including the DPO Iyaganku, Eleyele Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Operation Burst and Amotekun Corps were present at the site.

Akande maintained that the demolition was professionally handled by the technical team, with no reports of violence or disruption, stressing that no hoodlums were involved in the operation.

He also clarified that properties belonging to the Nigerian Railway Corporation were not removed by any representative of the local or state government.

Meanwhile, Faith and Miracle International Church, led by Senior Prophet G.F. David, has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the government to ensure proper utilization of the road setback for construction and improved access.

The cleric commended the initiative, describing it as a welcome development that would strengthen road connectivity and improve the overall well-being of residents in the community.
