…Demand Unreserved Apology For Its Dec 6 Malicious Publication

Staff unions of the Polytechnic, Ibadan have condemned in strong terms what they described as malicious publication by the Joint Action Committee, JAC, against the state government, under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde.

In a statement signed by the Chairmen of the Non-Academmic Staff Union, (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics, (SSANIP), Comrades Akande Ibraheem and Abegunde Abiodun, respectively, the staff unions stated emphatically that “the Polytechnic Ibadan is blessed in terms of human and material resources, which have been benevolent to our sister institutions in the state.”

The statement added, “the staff unions in the Polytechnic, Ibadan, wish to orientate JAC as appropriate on the malicious publication it released recently”.

“We want to state as follows: first, conjoining our esteem institution on issues that are peculiar to other state tertiary institutions is not acceptable to our unions in The Polytechnic, Ibadan; henceforth, JAC should not be regarded as the representative of all the unions of the institutions in the state, especially, The Polytechnic, Ibadan Staff Unions.”

They further added that “JAC should set its goals and be more focused, rather than reflecting on the achievements of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, as regards the position on accreditation.

“The staff unions in The Polytechnic, Ibadan, wish to use this avenue to appreciate the state government for its magnanimity in ensuring that our salaries are paid promptly. We are also grateful for the release of the four months’ outstanding minimum wage arrears to members of staff of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.”

In conclusion, the staff unions of the institution added that it is using the opportunity available to them through the press release “to plead with the Oyo State government to positively look into the issues raised by our sister institutions, which are weak in terms of financial resources.”
