Nigeria’s Flying Eagles Head Coach, Aliyu Zubair, has been unveiled as the new manager of Egyptian second division club, Telecom Egypt SC, on a two-year contract. The unveiling ceremony took place at the club’s headquarters in Cairo, with top officials of the team in attendance.

Zubair’s appointment follows a string of impressive accomplishments in Nigerian football, marking a steady rise through the coaching ranks. Before his new role, the Kwara-born tactician guided Nigeria’s U20 team to the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile after winning the WAFU-B Championship and finishing third at the AFCON U20 tournament.

Domestically, Zubair has built a strong reputation as a promotion specialist and success-driven coach. He masterminded Gombe United’s promotion to the NPFL in 2021 and repeated the feat with El-Kanemi Warriors in 2024. That same year, he led the Maiduguri-based club to win the President Federation Cup, Nigeria’s oldest and most prestigious football competition; a trophy he had earlier lifted as an assistant coach with Akwa United in 2017.

Recognized for his tactical acumen, discipline, and player development philosophy, Zubair’s track record made him an ideal choice for Telecom Egypt, a club with strong ambitions to gain promotion to the top flight. He will be joined in Cairo by his trusted assistant, Lukman Ijaiya, who also served with him in the Flying Eagles technical crew.

Telecom Egypt SC, one of the most ambitious and financially stable clubs in the Egyptian second division, boasts state-of-the-art facilities and a growing reputation for nurturing talent. With Zubair now at the helm, the club is confident of mounting a serious promotion challenge this season.

For Aliyu Zubair, this move represents not only a new chapter in his career but also an opportunity to showcase Nigerian coaching excellence on the North African stage; a challenge he embraces with determination and quiet confidence.
