Five NYCN presidential aspirants sign peace accord

In a landmark move to ensure peace and unity ahead of the forthcoming National Elective Congress, five presidential aspirants of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) on Monday signed a peace accord, pledging to uphold the spirit of fair play and abide by the outcome of the elections.

The event, held at the Ministry of Youth Development in Abuja, was supervised by the Chairman of the NYCN National Transition Committee (NTC), Prince Gbenga Adedamola.

The signing ceremony is seen as a critical step in setting the tone for the Council’s highly anticipated National Congress, slated for October 5–8, 2025, in Abuja.

Adedamola commended the aspirants for their maturity and commitment to peaceful competition, noting that their gesture would help foster harmony within the Council.

“The signing of this peace accord demonstrates the aspirants’ dedication to the well-being of the NYCN and their readiness to place national youth development above personal ambition,” he said.

The NTC Chairman also highlighted progress made in preparations for the Congress, themed “Redemption Congress: Repositioning the Youth Council for Greatness.”

He explained that the Transition Committee, in collaboration with the Congress Planning Committee and Electoral Committee, has finalized major arrangements, including venue logistics and security. 

The forthcoming Congress is expected to mark a turning point in the history of the NYCN, following the dissolution of the two factional National Executive Councils led by Comrades Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo and Solomon Adodo in August 2025.

That decision, reached during a National Management Committee meeting, paved the way for the Transition Committee to steer the Council toward stability and credible elections.

The five aspirants who signed the peace accord expressed confidence in the credibility of the process and the impartiality of the Electoral Committee.

They pledged to conduct their campaigns with decorum and to respect the outcome of the polls in the interest of the Council and Nigerian youths.

The NYCN leadership, while thanking state chapters, voluntary youth organizations, past leaders, and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development for their support, assured members that every measure has been taken to deliver a free, fair, and transparent Congress.

As delegates prepare to converge in Abuja, the peace accord stands as a powerful symbol of unity and shared vision. With the commitment of all aspirants to peaceful conduct, the stage is set for a successful Congress that will shape the future of the NYCN and strengthen its role in championing youth development across Nigeria.
